Teletherapy

Kids laughing and talking to grandparents via the internet ...

WE ARE EXCITED TO PROVIDE TELETHERAPY AS AN OPTION FOR OUR FAMILIES!!!!

WHAT IS TELETHERAPY?

Teletherapy is the newest addition to the field of speech and language pathology and it has gained popularity over the past three years. It is an exciting and innovating service delivery as it helps to reach individuals in remote or rural areas where speech therapy is sometimes not an option.

Teletherapy was approved by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) as an appropriate method of service delivery in 2005. ASHA’s position is that “teletherapy is an appropriate model of service delivery for the professions of speech-language pathology. Teletherapy may be used to overcome barriers of access to services caused by distance, unavailability of specialists and, or subspecialists, and impaired mobility” (ASHA, Speech-Language Pathologists Providing Clinical Services via Telepractice: Position Statement [Position Statement], 2005).

Our therapists utilize a combination of traditional therapy techniques, parent training, and digital materials to directly support and engage your child!

HOW DOES TELETHERAPY WORK?

Once our scheduling department has scheduled your family for convenient time for your child’s teletherapy session, you will then receive a link to access our HIPPA complaint video conference software.  We recommend you login to the chatroom 5 min before your scheduled therapy time. This will allow for time to ensure your camera and microphone are working, and that the camera is in an area that allows the therapist to view you and your child.

WHAT EQUIPMENT IS NEEDED FOR TELETHERAPY?

The only equipment needed is a device with a built-in camera and microphone (e.g., laptop, desktop computer, tablet, iPad, phone) and reliable internet connection!

IS TELETHERAPY COVERED BY INSURANCE?

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic ALL Medicaid Plans are currently covering teletherapy services. If you have commercial insurance, we suggest you contact your insurance carrier and discuss coverage for teletherapy services.

CANDIDACY

Some clients may present with physical or cognitive challenges that prevent them from benefiting from teletherapy. Being able to sustain attention for reasonable time, follow simple commands and manipulate a computer mouse are some of the basic physical and cognitive requirements of participating in teletherapy. Please contact our office if you are unsure if you child is a suitable candidate for teletherapy.

Our therapists utilize a combination of traditional therapy techniques, parent training, and digital materials to directly support and engage your child!
